They do not respect the donors. They are continually confuse. They have stupid rules that they are not able themselves to follow. They are not staff friendly. The Director of the facility Chuck or Charles I do not remember really is name always look if he was sleeping, does not bother him to come to talk to a donor when a donor ask for him, he answer he is busy, he does not have time, principally when he knows this donor is going to make a complaint. He is completely disrespectful. Those people are worthless, hopeless and have no people skills. This is shame.

I now know why for the first few visits they pay more then other centers. It is because they are so slow. It took over one hour before they even saw me to fill out forms. When I asked if it would be much longer the girl just shrugged her shoulders I got here at 8:30 it is now 9:40 and I am still waiting

Wow what a nice clinic! Got here as a new pt at 1159 and I was out at 315 pm! They gave me a squeeze and a blanket while I was being drawn. The RN did an amazing job during the physical. Only thing is you have to wait one week before donating again due to slow lab results.

I was very surprised by this clinic! I have been to 2 others in the L.A. area but this is without a doubt the best one!! As a new pt I was in at 1155 and out at 3p.m. I was so surprised! I got a noodle soup and a juice before the draw and I got a squeeze for the plasma draw and a blanket as it does get cold in the clinic. Also the RN_s who did the physical were outstanding. All in all you will not be upset here! Only thing is you have to wait one week before you continue to donate due to a complete blood analysis!

What is WRONG with the front office staff at ABS!!! I cannot believe how rude and unprofessional so many of these people are allowed to behave in a health care setting! Michelle was absolutely HORRIBLE today! She was doing the blood pressures/temperature screenings and SCREAMING people_s names (and I mean Loudly and with a Bitterly Aggressive tone!) without even putting our names up on the courtesy screen. I didn_t even have a chance to get out of my chair after her first command before she called me a second time adding the threat that this was my \_last call\_ and if i didn_t get there, i would lose my chance to donate! It was ridiculous! I got so angry and upset making my way over to her that it made my heart rate rise to the point of not being able to donate at all! A complete waste of my time. And she was talking this way to everyone! Another incident happened last Thursday when I went in to donate and I had to bring in my proof of address, which I had forgotten before. I gave it to the woman and she said someone would tell me when it was ok for me to answer the computer questions and start the check-in process. How long could that take, right? Especially when it already takes a good two hours to complete a visit anyway... After waiting OVER AN HOUR just for the \_ok\_ to check-in, it still never came. And when i went up to ask about how much longer it would be, first, everyone ignored me because it seems that though there is a reception desk, there isn_t really a designated \_receptionist\_, so they all ignore you equally! But, eventually, the woman who initially took my proof-of address an hour before and who, I should add was very nice,(Amy?) took pity on me and came to the reception desk. She didn_t have the answer but was kind enough to ask another worker. This worker then turns, giving a short angry answer and was rude to both the nice girl who was helping me and me, telling me to just keep waiting in the nastiest tone she could muster!Even the nice girl who helped me looked hurt and embarrassed by her response! Why should any of them be allowed to speak to us with such a lack of respect. We_re giving them our blood; can_t they treat us with dignity while we do it?!? Does being a Plasma Donor make me a second class citizen? I feel like I am in a welfare office or the DMV when I am doing a service that should be a pleasant experience from beginning to end! There are all these posters around telling us how much good our donation does for the community but so much of the personnel is allowed to treat us like trash! It has to stop! There should be a hotline where people can voice there comments and concerns and report mistreatment!I myself am writing a letter to Kevin King, Regional Director of ABS 1728 N. Eastman Rd., Suite B, Kingsport, TN 37664 and if anyone else has been treated badly and is sick of just rolling over and taking it, I suggest you do the same!Good luck and thanks for reading! PS. If anyone knows of other organizations that we can report these things to like the Better Business Bureau or humanitarian organizations that oversee blood banks and the like, PLEASE POST THE INFO! Thank you very much!!!

Second the facility itself: It_s a bit tight considering how many people show up! BUT, it_s kept tidy. Yes, the men_s restroom toilet was stopped up when I went to use it! I thought these guys were very professional and courteous. When they_ve inconvenienced you, they apologize! I was even given a check once when they didn_t have my blood tests ready for me; that is, I got paid without even donating. They offer you juice each time, and sometimes even fix you a cup-o-noodles if it_s been a while since your last meal. They thank you for coming in! Those who are disappointed at how they_re treated at ABS should go to Octapharma (formerly Pyramid) on Van Nuys, just for a sense of perspective. There, you_ll feel like a total meat popsicle, my friend. I had the feeling that they felt inconvenienced at having to talk to you, and just wanted you to shut up, lie down, get harvested, and get the #_! out of here, you unfortunate blood-bag! X-D

I wish I could give these good folks a better score!,but, with the new way they pay us donors is ridiculous. Last july, they stopped giving cash and started giving us checks. On February 22, 2010, they stopped the checks and started paying by way of Citibank Debit Card. They say that they_re changing to the debit cards to make things easier managing our money!,BUT, how about giving us more money so that we_ll have something to manage? At least with the check, I was abled to get my WHOLE $30 from the bank teller all at once in my hand. Now, with the debit card, I must go to the ATM and can take out only $20 at a time!, thus making me have to go to a store and buy something even if I don_t want to, and MAYBE get cash back for the rest of it. Yes, that works well if I take my WHOLE $10 and go crazy at the dollar store!LOL. They tell me if I just leave the $10 on the card, then on my second weekly visit, I_ll get $30, which will make it $40 on the card, and I can then clear the card at the ATM in increments of $20 dollar bills. I_m thinking, well gee, what if I get deferred on my second visit because of low, or high iron, protein, blood pressure, pulse, etc? Other than this, Advanced Bioservices is a professional, quite friendly, and good place to donate plasma and make a few bucks!,BUT, I wish that they would stop CHANGING payment methods that make it harder to get all of your money.

Please note - the information regarding the $$ the company receives for Source Plasma (the typical plasma ABS collects) is grossly exaggerated. The figure is more like $150. Unfortunately, it takes a great deal of Source Plasma collected to create the life saving drugs (Factor VIII, albumin, and alpha-I-antitrypsin - to name just a few). These drugs are often required for daily living for so many people. Your donations are essential for the recipients daily lives. The money received by the company is nominal when you consider what it has to be used for (facilities, maintenance, security, wages, insurance, supplies, donor fees, etc.) Please donate!!

Overall, these guys are pretty good as they_re clean, professional, and quite friendly!, eventhough I_ve seen, and personally experienced many acts of favoritism on their behalf. Sometimes going there is like gambling as at any time your iron, pulse, protein, blood pressure, etc can be high, or low!, so, it_s best if you don_t show up broke as you may leave there even broker!LOL! Most of the guys there on staff are pretty cool, respectful, and will do what they can to help a brother out within the rules!LOL! Some of the women on staff can be as catty and ditzy as all day long. For example, I_m a larger sized guy that requires a larger sized blood pressure cuff while having my pressure taken. I was instructed by \_THEIR\_ staff to request the larger cuff be used with me as with the smaller cuff, my pressure will be too high to donate. Usually when I ask for the larger cuff, I get it from the fellas!, no problems! Today, when I ask one of the ladies for the larger cuff, she said \_NO\_???,and that they \_HAVE\_ to use the regular cuff, and that using the larger cuff was cheating!LOL..I still can_t believe I heard that. Needless to say, I was deferred that day. Also, for what they probably get per bottle, and the fact that I_m an immunized donor, our pay could be more.

Wow, is that true about how much they get for selling the donations? That is quite the mark-up indeed. But there is nothing the donors can do, it_s not as if the people who go there have lots of other options for extra money these days. I_m not quite sure who owns this place, it would be nice if they were a bit more open about that. Is it just a coincidence that so many Russian people work there? Overall, I think the staff is awesome and the place is kept nice. Never had any problem with anyone who works there. I used to go to another place in Van Nuys, that place was terrible compared to ABS.

The people who work there are outstanding in every way --- however, when I found out that this company sells each of our donated units to the drug companies for between $1,500 _ $3,000, after paying us an average of $30 per unit, I was just blown away. WOW. That is no different than after an earthquake, selling water for $25.00 to $50.00 per gallon. They also don_t pay their employees squat --- relative to the profits they are generating. What vile, scum-of-the-earth, bottom-feeding sub-human garbage... Nothing more than profiteering, GREEDY lowlifes. In these delicate situations where a company is paying people for a vital part of their body --- they should be paying on FAIR Market Value NOT on what the Market DEMANDS. BOYCOTT Advanced Bio Services until they gain some ETHICAL STANDARDS and pay their donors a FAIR PRICE for a VITAL part of their body, and their employees a FAIR WAGE.

ABS has wonderful staff. They wipe down and change gloves after every stick and prick. Its does take time to donate.. i would recommend going in the morning if you dont have 2hrs to spare. Drink lots of water the day before to allow your donation to be quicker (I get in and out in an hour but im a smaller hydrated female) And if you are a first time donor.. i would allow 4 hours. Some get denied for small veins but thats nothing agaist you (shouldnt expect them to hire a specialist in sticking just for YOU to donate) The only thing i dont like is just a bit of the people who donate and think it is a RIGHT they have. Its your choice! Dont be so rude. They are currently expanding with the purchased joannes building next door which will help with the time it takes to donate. All in all Great staff.. two waiting areas.. great movies while waiting.. takes a little while to donate.. most donors are nice and friendly.. great security guards.. clean.. and A good place to make extra cash during this recession :)

men are nice and courteous a couple of the \_pretty\_girls are not so nice, courteous, or professional when you come in with a man that they are attracted to. You are sent home time after time. At first I did think I was being paranoid, but the third time it happened, my gut instinct said to me \_something is fishy around here.\_ I do not bother anybody, I sit back and mind my own business when I_m there. There is no need for pettiness. I am just trying to supplement my income. I have noticed some preferential treatment going on at ABS. The sign reads \_Absolutely no resticks...\_ The client is then told to either go and eat something or take this little blue and white cup that is handed to them and return to the finger sticking station in 45 minutes. Absolutely no resticks means just that-ABSOLUTELY NO RESTICKS. Do not give preferential treatment to those you desire. Love and God bless each and everyone of you!!!

After my second vistit I was seen by the nurse and approved to continue the process. During the donation I was injured on my right arm and had to use my left to complete donation process that day. Was told to call before next visit and call, and was told to come in. Came in and was turned away because I did not want to use the injured arm at that visit and offered my left arm and was told it would take too long and was rejected by fiana and Ludia saying I had been rejected by PCC for having too small vains. Why was I allowed to donate the first time if that was an issue and now that I have been injured not allowed to let that arm heal before attempting to use it again. I feel emontionally and physcially damaged and used in a most harmful way. Who can I speak to to get help!

I arrived at 10:50am on a day when everyone there (people who went frequently) kept commenting that it was amazing empty that day. I know the first time takes longer than subsequent times, but by the time I left (3:40pm), I wouldn_t have even be CLOSE to getting into the chair. (First I_d have had to sit down again and wait to be called, then once in the nice easy chair you apparently still have to wait forever). Tons of the blood-donating chairs were empty, btw, but no one seemed to be doing anything. This was a Thursday. Anyway, I wasn_t allowed to donate, and they were extremely rude to me. What happened was that, after all sorts of waiting and hassle, I finally got to the physical. The nurse was acting very distrustful of me, and after she looked at my arms, told me she had to call the manager. She stood there and had the manager tell me I couldn_t donate blood because, basically, they thought I was a druggie (using needles). Which is \_interesting,\_ to say the least, since I didn_t even drink til I was 21, haven_t ever smoked a cigarette, and haven_t even smoked pot or done any drug, in pill form, smoking form, or WHATEVER. I_m pretty sure it was discrimination (cuz I have piercings), same as when they always try to bust me in the airport for drugs I don_t have. They weren_t at all nice about it either. They found microscopic scabs on my arm and screamed at me \_These aren_t even healed! These are recent! You didn_t even let it heal first!\_ and made me feel like a total criminal for no justifiable reason, while people who freely admitted to using drugs (like the two young men I had been chatting to in the waiting room...) got to donate just fine. These people think anyone who donates plasma is the scum of the earth. They (all the females, anyway; and I_m female myself so this isn_t sexism) were awful. They wasted my entire day (two hours before the nurse incident, TWO different people had checked my arms/veins and had no problem with me). The nurse and manager were so mean to me that I ended up crying in frustration. Real nice people. Also, the manager told me that the business was owned by a larger company, but refused to give me any further contact information so that I could complain about the way they treated me. She told me \_tell the FDA.\_ (Thaaanks lady, sarcasm is greaaatt...) Never been so offended in my life... If they wanted to unreasonably suspect me of drug abuse they could have at least been more professional about it instead of making me feel like a total criminal who wasted their time when really it was the reverse!
