Its 7:00 a.m. and I walk into this rundown office complex with water stained drop ceilings and the smell of stale cigarette smoke and a vague odor of dried vomit. The check-in computers weren_t working so I had to give my Name, birth date and social security number out loud in front of about 50 or so shady looking donors. After the unpleasant woman at the front desk finally located my account I proceeded to wait in a long line standing for almost an hour. I finally made it to the screening room where I met a man who was also in a less than pleasant mood who took my vitals. My pulse was 5 bpm to high and i was sent back to the waiting area for a retest. After another half an hour or so, I was called back to the screening room where this time my pulse was within range. I was sent back to the waiting room to wait for another hour and a half before my name was called to donate. Once I got back to the donation area they gave me a chair and I waited another half an hour before anyone even talked to me. Finally the phlebotomist came to stick me. This girl seemed very nervous. It took her three attempts on my right arm, and another four attempts on my left arm before I was finally stuck. During the donation the machine started to make weird noises and the bottle was not filling. I tried for over 20 minutes to get someones attention. The line was clogged and none of my plasma was being collected during this time. After being in the donor area for over an hour and a half, my blatter began to burst. I requested to be able to go to the bathroom, and they told me that it wouldn_t be a good idea because they wouldnt pay me and i would be banned for life from donating again. So I tried to hold it as long as I could. I ended up wetting myself and tried to hide it the best I could. When I finally was finished donating. They said there was a problem with the system but by payment for the donation should be on my debit card in an hour or so. Well, the money is still not there. I will never go to this place or donate plasma ever again.

The workers there just seem to lack common sense. The first time I went I didn_t have the correct info because they were very unclear and impatient on the phone. So they told me to come back the following day when they open at about 6:30, but they had a staff meeting until 10:30. So i drove 30 min one way for nothing. The final time I went they said they had to do a back round check on me because I had donated plasma one time before... 2 years ago... for free... at my high school. So I sat around for 2 hours just for them to send me home once again. If you don_t mind feeling like you need to watch your back and like getting lip from people, this is the place for you!! otherwise go some where else. The waiting and headaches isn_t worth the money.

I take the bus down there $2 each way. Then I wait 1-2 hrs, just to find out that my temp is too high (1 degree) or my iron is too low, or my blood pressure is too high. So I spent $4 and 2+ hours of my time for nothing. I am a healthy, not overweight female, never get sick, do not take drugs and they reject me because my temp is 1 degree too high, get with it. I HAVE seen some of the people that frequent the place, you cannot tell me that they eat as healthy as I do. I thought I would do this to help out while I was looking for a job, turns out it ends up costing me money and do not count on the money (to pay a bill or buy something to hold you over until payday) you never know why they might turn you down. I do agree that the 1st visit process is WAY too long, it really is about 7 hours and the average time you our there for a routine donation is around 2.5 - 3 hrs. $20/3hrs=6.60 per hour (no transit) $20/5hrs=4.00 per hour (2 hrs transit)lets admit it downtown from anywhere is going to take some time. Unless you live close by. I only do it now if I need $20-25 for something urgent or around holidays for xmas presents.

I don_t really know where to begin. I had donated at another center, and after one bad needle stick there, thought I_d check out what my other options were. It was a little further out of my way, but over the phone, they said their payments were $10/wk higher than what I_d been getting, so why not? I spent much longer waiting for my initial physical at ZLB than I had at the other center, and it was a long creepy wait in a run-down, dirty waiting area. I don_t mean any disrespect to the other donors there, because I_m sure lots of people fall on hard times, but I was really uncomfortable. When I finally got to my screening for that first donation, the staff member reading my application saw the suburb I lived in and blurted out \_Why don_t you go to ****, that_s where I donate, and it_s so much better, and closer for you, too\_ The honesty was refreshing. When they weighed me and told me that the payments would be lower than they_d told me on the phone, (not $10 more, but $5 less each week than my normal place offers) because I wasn_t overweight, that was the last straw. I never donated there. On the more objective side, they don_t have the kind of check-in automation I had become accustomed to. Everything is handled manually, so I_m sure that even for repeat donors, the process can_t be as quick or as efficient as the other center I know.

Quite a lot of incompetence at the location. Took two trips because they were unclear as to what documents were required to donate. I was asked over and over and over the same questions. I know the first time takes longer than normal, but almost 7.5 hours ? ? ? At one point they sent me away to eat because it had been more than 4 hours since my last meal. Almost not worth it in the end.
