مطالبہ کم ہوا۔, شاعری پر افلاطون کا سب سے بڑا اعتراض یہ تھا کہ وہ نقل(Imitation) ہے۔ارسطو اسے جھٹلاتا نہیں، تسلیم کرتا ہے لیکن یہ نقالی اس کے نزدیک عیب نہیں خوبی ہے اور انسانی فطرت میں داخل ہے۔نقل کی ایک خوبی وہ یہ بیان کرتا ہے کہ جس چیز کو ہم اصلیت میں دیکھنا گوارا نہ کریں اس کی نقل کو خوشی سے دیکھ لیتے ہیں۔, ہم کہیں ظلم ہوتے دیکھیں تو شاید آنکھیں بند کر لیں لیکن ڈرامے میں اس کی نقل گوارا کرلیتے ہیں۔ہم غریب کو پسند نہیں کرتے مگر اس کی تصویر دیکھ لیتے ہیں۔نقل اصل سے جتنی قریب ہوگی اس سے اتنی ہی زیادہ مسرت حاصل ہوگی۔فنکار اپنی تصویر یعنی نقل کو اصل سے ہوبہو ملا نہیں دیتا بلکہ اس سے بہتر بنا
