What is donated: They take whole blood at this facility.

Monday -Friday 8-4:30

Pay per donation:
For normal blood donations they give $15.00, and if you have a special type of blood they pay $25 - $50 per donation.

There are different types of blood, and the percentages vary according to ethic population. The approximate distribution of blood types in the US population is as follows: O (RH +) 38%,O (RH–) 7%, A (RH +) 34%, A (RH –) 6%, B (RH +) 9%, B (RH -) 2%, AB (RH +) 3%, and AB (RH -) 1%.

If there is an emergency, anyone can receive type O red blood cells, and type AB people can get red blood cells from any ABO type. So, people with type O blood are universal donors and type AB blood is a universal recipients. Also, People with AB blood can give plasma to all blood types.

Frequency of donation:
Because they are taking whole blood you can only donate once every 8 weeks.

Test prior to donating:
According to the center, they have tests in order to give blood, but I imagine that they do basic vitals like- temperature, blood pressure and pulse before taking blood. Then after the blood is taken there are tests run on the blood.

Length of time for donation:
Each donation takes about 15 minutes, but this depends upon how well the blood is flowing.

Upfront cost for donor:
none

History of center:
Open for 30 years

Advantages:
The center is located in the neighborhood of most of their donors, so it is convenient.
