How much does the center pay per donation?
The first donation is $20, then after that it is $30.
How often can one donate at the center?
You can donate up to two times in a seven day period.
How to they extract the plasma?
The extract your plasma thru a process called Plasmapheresis. The plasmapheresis machine removes whole blood, mixes it with an anticoagulant solution, filters out the plasma into a container, then re-infuses the red blood cells and saline into the body. The whole process takes about 45 minutes, they use a sterile kit each time and the donor’s blood never leaves the system, so there is no possibility of cross contamination or infection.
What tests are performed prior to signing up?
They perform a brief medical history, to determine your eligibility as a donor. Then they check vital signs like temperature, blood pressure and pulse, and perform a finger stick to check the level of the red blood cells and plasma proteins in your blood. All the donor information is recorded so the next time you donate it will be quicker
How long does a donation take?
The first donation takes about 2-3 hours, then after that it only takes about 1 ½ to 2 hours.
Are there any upfront costs for the potential donor to enroll in the program (startup costs)?
NONE
