I grew up going to Red Cross Blood Drives with my Dad who would give blood whenever possible.

Although I have been to the Pleasanton branch of the Alameda County Blood Bank many times, for whole blood donation, today was my first attempt at Apheresis donation..... platlets and plasma only. The staff was careful and courteous.... were ready for me when I arrived and made sure I was as comfortable as could be. Even scratched my nose when I couldnt :) . The proceedure is time consuming but so worth it for those who need platlets. I will be able to donate more often this way and hope to do so again soon.

Very pleasant experience-- well trained, friendly staff, and a very organized facility! May I make a suggestion for new T-shirts though in place of the \_I bleed silver and black\_??? How about \_Keep Calm and Donate Blood\_ in white letters on a red shirt. Nice!!!

I recently moved to the Pleasanton area. As a point of reference for my comment, Ill note: One - Ive actually donated here once and tried but failed to donate here three times (twice as a walk in, once when I had an actual appointment) over the past holiday week without success. Two - Over the past 10 years, Ive donated every 56 to 65 days at Bonfils Blood Center in Colorado. All the professional staff I met during my first visit to the Pleasanton were friendly and courteous. However, I have to give this place a poor review because they make it incredibly difficult and expensive in terms of time, effort and stress to actually get in to donate; because the administrative front desk volunteers were poorly able to convey simple informeation such as time of operations (had wrong times posted on front window as recently as Thursday, Dec 22) and because of the very run down look and feel of the waiting area reminiscent of the worst DMVs Ive suffered through. Please note, I can understand the time delay over the holidays for walk-ins and was actually glad to see so many people in attempting to donate. However, I am incredibly disappointed that the front volunteer front desk attendant today both (a) disregarded the fact I called in for an appointment today when I came in and told me Id have a 45 to 60 minute wait because of all the walk-ins ahead of me and (b) was fairly rude in tone and response. This despite the fact both the Red Cross website and the person taking my reservation indicated your scheduled appointment would minimize wait time by putting you in front of any walk-ins. It doesnt have to be this way. There are plenty of well run, non-profit blood donation centers that they could model themselves after; e.g., Red Cross Ceneter in Fremont, Bonfils Blood Centers for example. Ill give the Pleasanton cite one more chance before saying forget it, they must have more blood donors than they need since they make it so blasted expensive in times of time, effort and stress.

I contacted this facility 07/23/09 and was informed they do NOT pay for blood plasma donations.
