  Was a little disappointed to find that they no longer have a center in Woodland Hills (which would have only been a couple blocks from my work). Their offices are in Van Nuys (Sherman wy/Sepulvida) and at USC. They did a pre-screening on the phone. Everyone was very nice and polite and I have an appointment set up for tomorrow. Maybe I'll comment afterwards on my post-donation experience.

  I visited this location and Hemacares other location on Van Nuys Blvd and they both look closed. I then called Hemacares office, and the said they no longer have platelet donor centers in Los Angeles.

  I have not been there, but I called to find out: They seem to organize local blood drives, so if you're interested, you might call them to find out about these drives. At this site, they perform platelet donation collection. You can be compensated for your time at $50, in the form of gift cards or utility bill payments. The process takes about 2 hours, a little longer than plasma donation, and you can only do it once in any 14 day period. Hours are M,F mornings, and Tu-Th afternoons and evenings. They are open 7 days a week, but I didn't catch the weekend operating hours.
