Will I faint when I donate blood?

Quick answerFeeling lightheaded is uncommon and usually preventable. Eating a full meal, drinking extra water, and resting afterward are the keys.

Prevent it

Have a full meal and plenty of water before you go. Skipping food is the most common cause of feeling faint.

Tell staff you faint easily

They can recline you further, watch you closely, and have you rest longer. There is no embarrassment in this.

If you feel lightheaded

Tell someone right away, lie back, and they will help. It passes quickly, and you will be looked after.
