How can I donate if I'm afraid of needles?

Quick answerFear of needles is one of the most common reasons people hesitate, and it is very manageable. You never have to watch, and staff help nervous donors every day.

You do not have to look

Look away, close your eyes, or focus on your phone or a conversation. The needle is only in view if you choose to look.

Tell the staff

Say you are nervous about needles. They can talk you through each step, count down, and go slowly.

Breathe and ground yourself

Slow breaths and relaxing your arm help. Some donors find that tensing other muscles, like their legs, gives the fear somewhere to go.
