What is a Power Red donation like for a first-timer?
How it works
An automated process collects concentrated red cells while returning the rest of your blood, along with some saline. You give more red cells in one sitting.
What to expect
It takes a bit longer than whole blood. Because you keep your plasma, some donors feel well hydrated afterward.
Who it suits
Type O and Rh-negative donors, whose red cells are in high demand, are often encouraged toward Power Red.
