Open data license

The BloodBanker center export is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License, with a few added notices to keep donors safe. You are free to use it for research, journalism, public health, donor education, and blood center work.

At a glance

  • License: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC-BY-4.0).
  • You may: copy, share, adapt, and build on the data, including for commercial work.
  • You must: give credit, link to the license, and note if you changed the data.
  • Do not assume: the data is accurate, current, official, or endorsed by any blood center.
  • Always: confirm details with the official center before relying on them.

The license

The dataset, meaning the compiled BloodBanker center directory and the fields published in the export, is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). The full legal code is the binding license and prevails over the plain-language notes on this page.

CC BY 4.0 covers copyright and, where they apply, sui generis database rights. It permits commercial and non-commercial use and the creation of derivatives, and it requires attribution. It is an established, internationally recognized license, which is why we use it rather than inventing our own terms.

How to give attribution

Attribution is required. A credit like this works well:

BloodBanker center directory, by BloodBanker (https://bloodbanker.com/open-data), used under CC BY 4.0. Export version 2026-06-16.

Keep the link to the license, keep any notices that came with the data, and indicate if you modified it. The simple pattern is title, author, source, and license.

What the license covers, and what it does not

It covers the compiled dataset and its structure as published by BloodBanker. It does not grant any rights in the names, logos, or trademarks of blood centers and operating organizations that appear in the data, for example the American Red Cross, Vitalant, OneBlood, Versiti, or Canadian Blood Services. Those belong to their owners. No trademark license is granted, and no affiliation, sponsorship, or endorsement is implied.

No warranty, and accuracy

The data is provided as is and as available, with no warranty of any kind, including accuracy, completeness, currency, or fitness for a particular purpose. Directory records can be incomplete or out of date. We do not carry live hours, real-time appointment availability, or verified donation types for every center. Anyone relying on the data should confirm with the official center first.

Not medical or eligibility advice

The dataset is directory information. It is not medical advice and not an eligibility decision, and it is not a substitute for the confidential screening every donation center performs. Do not present it as clinical guidance.

Personal data

The export is built to contain no personal data. It excludes host and submitter contact details, reviewer and moderator information, analytics, and any session identifiers. Do not attempt to re-identify any individual, and do not combine this data with other sources to do so. If you process the data, comply with applicable privacy and data-protection law.

No endorsement or official status

This is independent data. It is not official, government, or blood-center data. Our verification status is a BloodBanker editorial signal, not an official endorsement. Do not state or imply that BloodBanker endorses you, your product, or your conclusions, and do not present the data as authoritative.

Responsible use

These are requests, not conditions of the license:

  • Show the export version or date wherever you publish the data, so readers do not act on stale records.
  • Do not use the data to mislead donors or to discourage safe, voluntary donation.
  • Link back so people can report corrections, which keeps the public record accurate.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, BloodBanker is not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of the dataset. CC BY 4.0 includes its own disclaimer of warranties and limitation of liability, which apply in full.

Changes to the data and license

BloodBanker may update, re-version, or discontinue the dataset at any time. CC BY 4.0 cannot be revoked for copies you have already received, so a change applies to future versions. Material changes to the dataset are recorded in the changelog.
