a long time donor of the Hammond location,so...i'll be honest in my review. im glad I can help the community in doing my part to save lives, and it also helps me out barely.the staff is somewhat friendly, but some just walk around with a chip on their shoulder, and if one of them doesn't insert the needle correctly...it leaves a bruise, therefore not permitting you to donate till it heals. that's not fair on their part. one employee that is usually the one to open up the place always comes speeding into the parking lot,up to the entrance while donors stare in disbelief!! honestly,i don't think the amount they give you is fair, due to how much the bottle actually sells for. you get $60.00 a week at the most, and its not much...when a fair price should be $80.00 a week, due to the expense of living. you're not suppose to be outside smoking once you sign in...but they never enforce this with their donors. I get tired of the nurses being 10 minutes late 80% of the time too, being the place cant start processing anyone, until the nurses are there.

I know every time I leave the blood center I feel like I have temporarily done my part. Its a small way not only to serve your community but to give back a little bit.

I have donated @ the Hammond site a couple of times. some of the employees were very polite and nice. then some was just so rude and unprofessional. And for the rules, they will turn you away like it was nothing over some of the smallest things.

They all make child molesting noises like they're human traffikers trying to get me away from the money. Very unprofessional! People believe it's for crackheads _ maybe they scare the nurse into that.

This was my first time donating and it was a good experience. The techs were very pleasant. It was lengthy process but by it being the first time that was expected. Will definitely go back to donate.

Management in this place is there because they are warm bodies, they have not been held accountable by their so called \_leader.\_ Darn shame isn't it?!

I have donated @ the hammond location on and off, for over a year now. Usually, they are good with the sticking and all, but they can be horribly rude from my experience. You leave wondering, is there a manager/leader here, and who is it? Once I had come off the bed early to make a job appointment. I would have stayed, but ALL technicians were dawdling, in step with the veteran tech on the floor. Because of that one episode, they would skip over me during the next donation times. Vindictive, not professional at all. If they only knew...it wasn't me being rude.

I had a very bad experience with the Hammond locations. The staff was VERY unprofessional, and they gave me the run around every time I went there. But when I went to a different location I received great service. I would NOT recommend this location for anyone who do not want THERE TIME waisted.

A 22-year-old straight man from Gary, Indiana has been prohibited from donating blood because, after undergoing routine screening procedures, was told that he appeared to be a homosexual. I was humiliated and embarrassed, said Pace, 22. of Gary. Its not right that homeless people can give blood but homosexuals cant. And Im not even a homosexual. [...] During the interview screening process, Pace said he was told he could not be a blood donor there because he appears to be a homosexual. I have not been there, but called and found: They only collect plasma and they pay $30 and $40 for the first two donations, then it varies by weight. For example at 160lbs, they pay $25 for the first and $30 for the second visit each week. walk-in only, no appointments :-(

I thought that the staff was curteous and efficient. The facility was clean and there was a professional atmosphere. Additionally, the actual process of donating was a breeze; from having the needle placed in my arm to the amount of time it took them to respond to the indication that I had completed the process of having my blood cells returned.
