Which blood types are best for platelet donation?

Quick answerType A, B, and AB donors are often encouraged to give platelets, while type O donors are usually steered toward red cell donations. All types are welcome to give platelets.

Why type guides the choice

Centers often route O donors to whole blood and Power Red, where their red cells help most, and route other types to platelets and plasma.

AB donors

AB donors are valuable for both platelets and plasma, since AB plasma can go to any patient.

All types welcome
