Who can donate platelets?

Quick answerPlatelet eligibility is similar to whole blood, with a couple of differences: you generally need to avoid aspirin for about two days beforehand, and you must meet a platelet count check. The center makes the final decision.

Mostly the same as whole blood

Age, weight, health, and travel rules are similar to whole blood donation. Use the general eligibility checker to get oriented.

Aspirin matters here

Because aspirin reduces platelet function, centers usually ask that you have not taken it in the two days before a platelet donation.

Final word is the center's

A brief screening and a platelet count check confirm eligibility on the day.
