A division of the New York Blood Center (NYBC), Hudson Valley Blood Services (HVBS) has been providing blood and blood products to Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester counties and the Bronx for nearly 40 years. It aims to provide the safest, high quality transfusion related products and services in tandem with research, medical care innovation and education. 250 regional employees work everyday toward making New York Blood Center self-sufficient. However, the Center still relies on nearly 30,000 products from other parts of the United States to fulfill its patients needs. HVBS collects 300-400 life-saving blood and blood products each day to distribute to area hospitals. It operates eight donor centers throughout the area, in addition to daily blood drives hosted by local business, industry, educational, religious and community groups. Aside from its blood collection, HVBS is also involved in bone marrow collections and also do autologous and directed blood for individuals facing surgery and other medical procedures. The Hudson Valley region covers roughly 9,500 square miles and serves approximately 40 hospitals, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with 90,000 life-saving products each year.
